European History, Politics, and Society Thesis Grants
For Summer 2018

Application deadline: April 2nd, 2018

To encourage original, substantial thesis research, the European Institute offers competitive grants to M.A. students in European History, Politics, and Society. Thesis grants may be used for travel (economy-class airfare and public transit), accommodations, meals, and research (library and copying fees) expenses. A variety of fieldwork activities are eligible, including library and archival research, interviews and surveys, and participant observation.

Expenses will be reimbursed after students return from their fieldwork and submit receipts and other necessary documentation to the European Institute. Awardees are also asked to submit a 1-2 page report that details the research completed during their travel as well as a copy of their fieldwork archive (including pictures of archive documents, interview transcripts, participant observation notes, etc.).

To apply for a thesis grant, submit the following materials to Sharon Kim, European Institute Program Manager, at [email protected], by April 2nd, 2018.

  • Budget (not to exceed $2,000)
  • A thesis proposal (10 pages)
  • IRB approval for any research involving human subjects (if relevant)
