Fim screening of Toni, mio padre (2025) by Anna Negri

Followed by Q&A with Film Director Anna Negri moderated by Patricia Dailey and Bernard E. Harcourt

Welcome Remarks: Adam Tooze

Anna was 14 in 1979 when her father, Toni Negri, was jailed and accused of being the secret mastermind behind the Red Brigades, the spearhead of Italian leftist terrorism, a charge which was later dropped. Negri nevertheless served time for his role in the "Autonomia” movement, and, during years in prison and exile, Toni Negri became a world-renowned philosopher, his arrest and imprisonment just one chapter in his complicated life. For Anna, however, that event had a traumatic impact. Years later, Anna and Toni meet up in Venice, in front of a film camera. Toni knows it will be his last time in Venice – and dies six months later. Anna, who has never lived with her father since his arrest, tries to make up for lost time. Toni, mio padre is an attempt to explore the revolutionary mentality of the 1960s and 70s, the ethics of violence, and the political legacy of workerism.
