Adam Tooze

Professor Adam Tooze is the Director of the European Institute and the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Professor of History. He chairs the European History, Politics, and Society MA program and teaches a range of courses in European History.

  The Anthropocene is one of the key concepts of the 21st century. In recognizing the dramatic scale of the impact of human activity on the global environment, it subverts the distinction between human and natural history. The concept of the Anthropocene has attracted attention from a wide range of disciplines. Graduate students of any discipline are welcome to apply for enrollment in this course. Please note, however, that this course addresses the theme from a historical point of view, specifically that of modern history.

Bio

Professor Tooze teaches and researches widely in the fields of twentieth-century and contemporary history. From a start in modern German history with a special focus on the history of economics and economic history his interests have widened to take in a range of themes in political, intellectual and military history, across a canvass stretching from Europe across the Atlantic. His most recent book was Crashed: How a Decade of Financial Crises Changed the World (2018).
